Why it Could Be Time for Transmission Repair

As you go about your daily routine, it's easy to forget about the massive stresses you're putting on your vehicle. Your car just keeps moving you along, faithfully carrying you to the office, then to soccer practice, then to the grocery store and back home again. Especially if we're not making coast-to-coast treks, we tend not to really stop and think about the wear and tear that is occurring as we drive around town each day. But miles are miles, whether they racked up by driving from Seattle to Miami, or just going to work each day. Your car is made of myriad moving parts, all intricately pieced together in a way that culminates in one of our modern technological marvels: the automobile. But, regardless of make or model, those parts will start to wear down and eventually require repair. One of the systems in your that will likely end up needing a mechanic's touch is the transmission. It's not like it's a freak problem if you have a transmission that is in need of repair. However, if you can familiarize yourself with the symptoms of a transmission problem, then you may well end up saving yourself money at the shop by getting your car in before the problem is exacerbated. There are a number of signs of a transmission problem. Here are four of them:

If you've noticed that there is an artificial liquid on the garage floor below where you normally park, then this could be a sign. Obviously one candidate for this issue is oil. However, if the fluid is a brownish or reddish color, then you may be leaking transmission fluid. One way to help determine if this is the case is by keeping an eye on your fluid levels. But if you do need to add fluid, bear in mind that overfilling can cause its own problems.

Burning Odor

If you're getting a nose-full of a smoky smell that seems to be drifting up from under your hood, this could be tied to your transmission. Of course, there are a number of issues that could cause this problem. However, it could be because your transmission fluid is running too hot, thus preventing it from doing its job properly, and resulting in that burning odor that is piercing your nose.

Gears Slipping

This is one of those classic signs that you've got a transmission issue on your hands. If you're driving along and for no good reason you pop out of gear, this could signal the start of a significant problem that you'll need to address quickly. At this point you're losing the ability to maintain control over your car, so you'll want to play it safe and get into the mechanic as soon as possible.

Stalling Out

If you find yourself stalling out, this could mean that you have faulty transmission lines. Get into the shop quickly before the problem worsens.

If you're considering getting into the shop for transmission repair, be sure to go and see an industry professional. In the greater Dallas area, the experts to contact are at Dallas Car Care at (214) 736-9032. Let Dallas Car Care help your car perform at its highest level.
