3 Classic Signs of Brake Trouble

You rely on your car to get you safely through your daily routine. As you go about dropping the kids off at school, then off to work, then to the grocery store, your expectation is that your car will deliver you from place to place without issue. And as thankful as you are for having a reliable vehicle, the reality is that your car is filled with moving parts that are slowly wearing down. One of the systems that will inevitably need servicing is the brakes. Your brakes go through incredible stresses as the tens of thousands of miles add up on your odometer. The key is being able to recognize early the signs of brake trouble. If you identify the symptoms and address the problem as it first arises, there's a good chance that you'll be able to get your car back from the shop without too much of a dent in your pocketbook. More importantly, you'll be ensuring that you, your loved ones, and everybody else on the road, will be that much safer. There are several signs that are suggestive of brake trouble. Here are three of the classic ones:

If an ear-piercing, high-pitched squealing sound is coming from your brakes, this could well mean that your brake pads have worn down significantly and there is now metal rubbing on metal in a way that is producing that unbearable falsetto note. When you hear this sound, you'll want to get to the shop quickly because there's a good chance that you'll be able to address this problem before there is serious damage. The key is not putting it off and being proactive about getting it in quickly.

That crunching noise coming from below your foot is a sign that the problem could be getting serious. In this situation, there's a good chance that your brakes pads are now virtually non-existent and now you're left to hope that damage hasn't been done to the discs. This symptom means that you need to get to the shop right away because your vehicle is becoming a liability to drive.

This is just plain bad. If when you step on the brakes your car is veering in one direction, you're now becoming a threat to not only yourself and your passengers, but anyone out on the road. It's possible that the veering is happening because of a frozen caliper. Sometimes calipers will freeze up because of corrosion. But regardless of the root cause, you need to get your car off the road and into the shop as soon as possible. At this point, you really just cannot wait any longer.

If you're considering getting in for brake work, be sure you bring your car to an industry professional. In the greater Dallas area, the experts to contact are at Dallas Car Care at (214) 736-9032.
